POLICIES AND PROCDURES TO KNOW

Classes will be held face to face.

If there is a need to go entirely online we will use Canvas notifications and Email for communication and all assignments will be posted via Canvas. In the event you can not access Canvas to post an assignment, submit it via Email.

Please contact ITS for technical questions or issues. IT Help Desk (Links to an external site.)

If we would need to move to all online sessions, students are required to attend the on-line sessions and submit assignments online using Canvas. I check my Email often so if there are problems with assignments or attend an online class please contact me via Email

Attendance:

Attendance will be taken at every class. Faculty members will maintain a seating chart for every class to minimize contact, assist with traffic flow, and to aid with contract tracing should it become necessary. Students who miss a class (lab, studio, clinical, etc.) due to illness will not be penalized for their absence and will not be asked to provide formal documentation from a healthcare provider. Students who are feeling ill should protect others by not attending classes.

Please note: Attendance is not optional. Unless you are ill, or have been instructed by a medical professional to quarantine, you are required to attend all of your classes. You will be counted as absent if you choose to not attend.

If you are unable to attend class or participate in a course activity, please follow these steps:

  • Isolate yourself as much as you can from other people.

  • Contact Student Health Services (724-852-3332). Please call first. Do not arrive at Student Health Services until you have spoken with a nurse. https://app.thera-link.com/scheduler/6e398952-f050-46aa-bb0b-733f8c31de6b (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.)

  • Notify your course instructors in advance of the absence (or inability to participate), if possible.

  • Keep up with your coursework, as you are able. Participate in class activities and submit assignments electronically, to the extent possible.

  • Remain in contact with the instructor regarding deadlines and requirements.

  • Contact the Pathways Center for assistance if needed.

We trust that each member of the WU campus community will ultimately accept responsibility for their own health and safety and act in a manner that demonstrates respect and consideration for those around them.

Facemasks:

Students are required to wear face masks in classrooms, common areas, and any place where social distancing cannot be practiced or they will be in close contact with another person (6 feet or less for 10-15 minutes of sustained contact). By following the requirement to wear masks for the duration of class, Waynesburg University students show respect for their instructors, classmates, and others. Instructors may ask a student to leave a classroom if the student is not wearing a face mask. Disposable masks will be available in the classrooms for students who have forgotten to bring their own.
The use of face masks is everyone’s responsibility and is a proven method to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please join us in this critical time to keep each other and our Waynesburg University community safe.

Commitment to Safety:
Waynesburg University takes its obligation to lessen the spread of COVD-19 very seriously and
needs the commitment of all members of the campus community. To that end, the University reserves the right to remove any individual from campus and/or suspend them from the University
or terminate their employment if there is a failure to comply with the provisions of this plan. Please visit the WU Keep Waynesburg Well Plan at:
https://www.waynesburg.edu/keep-waynesburg-well (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.).

Daily Self-Assessment:
1. Remember to use the app-based self-assessment screening tool on a daily basis to monitor your health. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/apple-covid-19/id1504132184 (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.)

2. Report changes in your health by completing the health screening Machform. https://waynesburguniversity.forms-db.com/view.php?id=552245 (Links to an external site.)

Assignments:

Assignments will be given in class. If you miss a class it is your responsibility to find out what the assignment and when it is due. WORK IS EXPECTED TO BE TURNED IN ON TIME. Late assignments are subject to a penalty.

Regardless of whether you are in class or not, you are expected to submit all work by the assigned due date. Absence from class does not excuse you from handing in assignments on time. If you know you will be unable to attend a class, notify me in advance and make arrangements to complete the assignments on time.

If you are absent, you must take responsibility for making sure you have the class notes, handouts, and assignments. If you know that you will be unable to attend a class to take an exam on time, you are responsible to make the necessary arrangements with me to take the exam prior to the scheduled date. The exam must be made up before the next class meeting. If no arrangements are made, the student will receive a zero for the exam.

Exams and quizzes:

NO MAKEUP QUIZ OR TEST WILL BE GIVEN without a doctor’s excuse or written permission from the Student Services Office. You must inform the instructor prior to exam if you will not be in attendance and the reason for your absence. If a makeup quiz or exam is in order you must schedule this with the instructor.

Classroom Etiquette
:
Students are expected to behave in a manner that does not interrupt the learning process or ability of fellow classmates. Cellular telephones and other communication technologies (i.e. text messaging!) can be very disruptive to the academic process. Please turn all media (cell phones, headphones, etc.) off and place it out of sight while class is in session. Students caught checking their phones, texting, surfing the Internet, or using other media during class will be counted as absent. Students caught on their phones or using other media during an exam or any graded exercise will be cited for academic dishonesty and will be asked to immediately leave the class.

Academic Integrity

From the University Catalog: The principles of truth and honesty are recognized as fundamental to a community of teachers and scholars. The University has a responsibility for maintaining academic integrity to protect the quality of education, research, and co-curricular activities on our campus and to protect those who depend upon our integrity. The following describes how we understand academic integrity at Waynesburg University.

Each member of the University community expects that both faculty and students will honor the principles of academic integrity. Faculty will exercise care in the planning and supervision of academic work, so that honest effort will be positively encouraged. It is the responsibility of the student to refrain from academic dishonesty and from conduct which aids others in academic dishonesty. This responsibility means that all academic work will be done by the student to whom it is assigned without unauthorized aid of any kind.

If any instance of academic dishonesty is discovered by an instructor, it is his/her responsibility to inform the student in writing of the accusation along with a proposed sanction.

Students found guilty of cheating or plagiarism will normally receive an “F” in either the course or the particular test or assignment, at the faculty member’s discretion. Written notice of this finding will be provided by the faculty member to Academic Affairs with a copy to the department chair.

All work presented MUST BE YOUR OWN!

Code of Conduct

Please note that all provisions of the Code of Conduct will apply in this course. Students who violate the Code of Conduct will be reported for disciplinary action.

The University has a continuing commitment to providing reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities.
